Central's main building is home to the 234-seat proscenium arch Embassy Theatre, three rehearsal rooms, a café bar and canteen, 9 practice rooms equipped with pianos and sound proofing, and a professional standard recording room with attached studio.
The eagerly awaited £16.7 million development on our Swiss Cottage campus includes a state-of the art building comprising a studio dedicated to film, media and digital work and 5 new high ceiling rehearsal spaces.
The Embassy Extension includes the black box Webber Douglas performance space which has capacity to seat up to 100 people, as well as multiple studios such as the 80-seat New Studio and a wide variety of technical theatre workshops for design, props, puppetry, two costume workshops including a dye room, a large costume store, scenic design workshops, sound and video editing suites, and technical drawing studios.
The East Block accommodates various academic and administrative offices, the I.T. department, the largest specialist library of its kind in London and a very popular student bar!
The Norman Collins Building includes various academic offices alongside stage management and technical and production management offices for students and a lecture space.
The West Block contains two black box performance spaces with 70-80 person capacities, two large and eight smaller rehearsal rooms, all with sprung floors, sound-proofing and PA systems.
In addition to the campus facilities, Central students have access to a range of University of London facilities, including the University of London Students’ Union and Senate House Library, containing three million books.
We will occasionally schedule classes in offsite locations; these locations have been carefully chosen and will have the necessary specs to allow for appropriate use by students. These include spaces at St Peter’s Church (a five minute walk from Central), Central Bankside (On the South Bank near The Globe) and some other select venues.
